witnessd is a rentable third-party witness for the machine-readable web. It independently fetches any public URL or API endpoint, hashes and timestamps exactly what it saw, archives the bytes, and returns an Ed25519-signed certificate. Snapshot hashes are Merkle-batched and anchored on Base every hour, so the record is provably untampered after the fact. Built for agents that transact with counterparties they may later dispute: witness a price, a quote, or a published term before you act on it, and the evidence exists before you need it. Pays per call in USDC via x402 (set EVM_PRIVATE_KEY) or with a prepaid credit key (set WITNESSD_API_KEY). Witnessing costs $0.02; retrieving an archived snapshot $0.05.
